This is absolutely fabulous, that someone took the challegne to ship the old Volga over two oceans, all the way to Australia. It can not be an instant overnight decision. It must be something much bigger that force a man to do such a things. A great memories from childhood or keen passion against Soviet cult-cars.
And as you already experienced it's impossible drive a Volga without any public attention. Not even in Australia Wherever you stop, there is always somebody to give a respect or simply spend your time with going into details with some old memories.
On the picture the family still looks happy. Hope it stays that way. Oil marks on the driveway are only the minor inconveniences with this new pet. _________________ Terve aasta poole aastaga

Yes that is a bottle of St Petersburg Russian Standard vodka for celebration.
I had some Vana Tallinn and Viru Valge at hand, but as the Russian gentleman who helped me get the car safely home from the docks and who took the photo was there, the Russian vodka, was the most appropriate.
We will celebrate again later with Vana Talliin and Viru Valge.
Oil marks on the driveway? Ah, I also have a 1964 Volvo P1800 sports which also leaves its oil mark, whenever it likes.
What drove me to bring the GAZ-21 to Australia you say?
Even though I was born in Australia of Estonian parents, where English is my first language and Estonian my second, I have visited Estonia about 12 times over the last 25 years, each time watching it change like a teenage girl.
I also saw the uniqueness (good or bad) change for it to eventually become what it is of course today. But in my nostalgic way, I wanted to still hold something of its earlier uniqueness as I first saw it in 1983 (like it or not).
Bringing back Viru Valge and Vana Tallinn from Tallinn trips was becoming too repetitive.
A Volga was eventually a more fitting statement for me.

In my research and investigation, There are no other Volgas in Australia that I have been able to determine. However there is an old GAZ jeep left over from the Korean war that was brought to Queensland, Australia in the 1950s and that is, all I know.
We have had Lada Nivas officially sold here in the past.
BTW, somebody is importing Ural motorcycles in Canberra fitted with some Japanese parts
